As said before, taking your time is key. You need to learn about your tegu, and its behavior, just as much as it needs to learn about you. In time your tegu will learn to trust you, and potentially want your attention, if you feed, treat and house it correctly.
I've had Greg, my black and white, since august 2008 and hes up around 4 feet long. He free roams almost the entire time I'm home, and the only problem I ever have is that he likes pooping on soft things instead of the wooden floor. I also have a pretty large back yard that I let him roam around...
Does anyone get their tegu's claws cut. The claws and scratch marks really don't bother me, i was just wondering if any does get them cut, and if so how they go about it.
I got my guy in august and he eats about 5 peach fuzzies each time i feed him. i was just wondering how much everyone else who got a tegu this year is feeding there'?

My tegu is still a baby so I havent had a chance to figure this out for my self yet. I enjoy having friends over at my apartment and bring my pets out for people to enjoy. If I get my tegu to be tame around me, is there a chance it will not be intimidated by other people that it hasnt met...
I'd say a big retic would be impresive. My 9 1/2 is like a cow, you can grab and pull on her with even getting a second look. That is of course if you dont smell like food, so small children smelling like the pet dog may not be a good idea.
